Apricot Peppermint Lotion Bars

Works as a lip balm too!

I think homemade lotion bars are a fun and easy place to start when it comes to going toxin free and they make great gifts! It’s not nearly as life changing as something like going natural in terms of your hair. Or if the other people in your house aren’t wanting to go all natural then it’s something that doesn’t have to affect them like laundry detergent or changing all the soaps in the house. I’ve also noticed that making our own products like these lotion bars in larger batches has been more cost efficient then when we used to buy regular lotion from the store. Our kids love them though because we use round muffin cups as our mold and they come out kinda white-ish so they think they look like mini moons. Kids just make the everyday ordinary into the most fun-filled things don’t they?

  • Fill sauce pan with 1-2 inches of water put over low heat on stove top, with a wide mouth glass jar in the center of the pan (I have a 2 cup glass pyrex measuring cup that works great for this, also makes it easy to pour.)
  • Mix beeswax and mango/shea butter in the jar until fully melted
  • Once beeswax and shea butter is melted add apricot kernel oil and stir well
  • Take jar out of pan add vitamin E oil and peppermint essential oil, mix well
  • Pour into your molds, I like using mini muffin cups (this recipe makes 12 bars using mini muffin cups), this keeps them small enough that I can keep them in a small tin in my purse, like this
  • After they harden store in a cool place, the fridge is a great option
