5 Natural Deodorants

When is comes to deodorant everybody is different, so I have 5 different natural deodorants for you guys today. My personal favorites are 1, 3 and 4. I tend to just kind of naturally rotate through these three. If I have an extra active day I might layer them, but typically I use just one of these three.

  • 1. Chlorophyll – just squirt some (1-3 teaspoons) in a tall glass of water. What I like most about this one is it deodorizes the whole body. I’m trying to be as delicate as possible, but seriously the WHOLE body and everything that comes out of it.  With some chlorophyll alone I’ve been abel to go through very active days (like working out and running after kids) and have been completely fine. I guess the only thing is getting used to drinking your deodorant instead of swiping it on. 
  • 2. Lemon juice – This one’s easy after you shower swipe a sliced lemon under your pits. This actually works the reason why it’s not my favorite is my skin tends to be a bit sensitive and after a while this one started stinging me, especially after shaving! But for some people this works great!
  • 3. Homemade Deodorant – This is my current favorite. It’s gotten me through long days (working out, hanging with the kids, and the soup kitchen) you can also adjust the scent to your liking. This time I did grapefruit but last time I did peppermint. (Directions Below)
  • 4. Salt Crystal – Same as the lemon just swipe on after you shower. This one I’ve had a pretty good experience with, but not always. Sometimes it works perfectly I think on less active days and this is kinda embarrassing to admit but it works perfectly for my husband. So, I guess I’m stinkier? Or I at least sweat more, which might be true he sits for his job while I’m chasing down kids and doing house work. Yeah, I like that reasoning more than being stinkier than a man. haha.
  • 5. Baking Soda – Just mix with coconut oil (or other oil of choice) into a paste and rub into your pits. This had almost the same effect as the lemon juice for me just too rough and unlike the lemon juice I still felt like a had some stink. But for some people this works great. 


  • 2 tablespoons beeswax pastilles, I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs, also a great source for the butters and clay
  • 5 tablespoons shea butter or mango butter
  • 2 tablespoons bentonite clay (make sure not to touch with metal), like this one 
  • 10 drops tea tree oil
  • 22 drops other oil of choice: peppermint, grapefruit, lavender etc. 


  • Fill sauce pan with 1-2 inches of water put over low heat on stove top, with a wide mouth glass jar in the center of the pan (I have a 2 cup glass pyrex measuring cup that works great for this, also makes it easy to pour.)
  • Mix beeswax and shea butter in the jar
  • Once beeswax and shea butter is melted remove jar from heat and stir in bentonite clay with a wooden or plastic utensil
  • Next add the essential oils
  • Pour into your container, you can buy a deodorant container from amazon like this, or you can be like me and realize last minute that you don’t have one and grab any small glass jar (about 4 ounces works) you’ll just have to scoop a little bit out and rub on your underarms
